Dawn of the dead

James awoke with a start, gasping for air. The surroundings were strange, cold, and dim lighting made it hard to see. He tried to move, but his body felt different, heavy in an unfamiliar way.

"Where... where am I?" His voice sounded softer than he expected.

"Calm down, you are safe," said a mysterious figure from the shadows. The silhouette stepped closer, revealing a man in a lab coat, his eyes gleaming with something between curiosity and excitement.

"I... I remember an accident. Where is Alice?" James tried to sit up, but a wave of confusion and pain washed over him. His hands trembled as they touched his body, and something made him stop suddenly. He looked down. A pair of breasts...?

Reality hit him like a thunderclap. He was in Alice’s body.

"What happened?!" His mind raced in panic, trying to make sense of it all.

"Yes, you were in a serious accident," the man said with disturbing calmness. "But I must tell you, in a way, you didn’t survive... and she, well, only survived partially."

James stared at the man, confused and terrified.

"What do you mean by that?" His voice, now so unfamiliar, trembled with fear.

"Your body was mangled, beyond recovery. In your moments of greatest agony, you begged me to save Alice at any cost... and I tried." He paused, as if savoring the moment. "But her brain didn’t make it. I kept her alive by machines, but that wasn’t a life worth living. So, I took the liberty of saving what I could. Her body... and your mind."

James fell silent, processing the words. What seemed impossible was now his new reality. He was trapped in Alice’s body.

"You did what?!" He shot up, only to feel the weight of his new feminine form. "This can’t be real!"

"Oh, but it is." The man smiled, almost amused. "Welcome to your new self, James... or should I call you Alice now?"
