The Perfect Afternoon: A Surprise Discovery and an Unexpected Invitation

The perfect afternoon starts with getting all the little details right.

Oliver had shut the world out—or at least, he thought he had.

With the house to himself, he finally had time for his favorite little ritual: getting dressed up and becoming the version of himself he loved seeing in the mirror.

The process was almost sacred.

First, he dug through the back of his closet and pulled out his favorite yellow dress. The soft fabric fell perfectly around him, and the full skirt gave him a light, almost effortless feeling every time he moved.

Then came the makeup.

Oliver had spent hours watching YouTube tutorials, carefully practicing every technique until he could finally recreate the looks himself. A delicate line of eyeliner. A touch of blush across his cheeks. A little color on his lips.

He stepped back from the mirror, smiled, and decided he wasn't quite finished.

The final touch was the black wig with its beautiful retro waves. He carefully adjusted it until the curls framed his face just right. When he looked at himself again, he barely recognized the shy person who had started getting ready an hour earlier.

For a moment, Oliver simply stood there, admiring the result.

Then the doorknob turned.

His heart nearly stopped.

The door opened, and Ethan walked in without knocking, looking for the manga they had agreed to trade.

Oliver froze.

For a few seconds, neither of them said a word.

Oliver's mind raced through a dozen possible explanations, each one sounding worse than the last. He could feel his face getting warmer as he stood there in the yellow dress, completely exposed—not physically, but emotionally.

Then Ethan smiled.

Not a mocking smile. Not a surprised laugh.

A genuine, warm smile.

"Wow," Ethan said. "You look amazing."

Oliver blinked.

"Seriously?"

"Seriously."

Instead of making things awkward, Ethan seemed genuinely impressed. He noticed the dress, the makeup, the carefully styled hair—and even complimented the little details Oliver had spent so much time perfecting.

Soon, the tension disappeared.

What had started as an embarrassing accident somehow turned into one of the most comfortable conversations they'd ever had.

By the time Ethan finally found the manga, neither of them seemed particularly eager for him to leave.

He reached the doorway, then glanced back.

Oliver's heart skipped a beat.

"You're leaving already?" he asked, trying to sound casual.

Ethan gave him a knowing little smirk.

Oliver hesitated before adding, almost shyly:

"You don't want to stay a little longer?"

Ethan leaned against the doorframe.

"I was wondering when you were going to ask."

Oliver smiled.

Maybe the afternoon wasn't over after all.
