Lucas Lost the Bet Before It Even Began
Its surface was impossibly smooth, covered with tiny neon lights that pulsed in strange patterns. Whatever it was, it certainly wasn't human technology.
Then the holographic panel appeared.
According to the alien interface, the device could completely reconfigure a person's molecular structure, including their DNA.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become someone else.
“I doubt you have the guts,” Marcos teased, wearing his usual confident grin. “Let's make a bet. Whoever uses the cube has to transform into the person the other secretly desires most. Let's see who really knows their best friend's tastes.”
Lucas laughed nervously, but his pride wouldn't let him back down.
The deal was sealed.
Lucas would be the first to try the device while Marcos waited in the living room.
Inside the bathroom, Lucas was driven by a mixture of competitiveness and a curiosity he would never have admitted out loud. He knew exactly the kind of woman who could make Marcos lose his composure while scrolling through social media.
Strong features. Perfectly straight black hair with an immaculate fringe. Full lips. A curvaceous, unmistakably feminine figure.
If he was going to win, he wasn't going to hold anything back.
Lucas entered the commands into the alien interface.
The transformation began.
A warm sensation spread through his body. His height gradually decreased as his features softened and his entire physique began to change. His skin became smoother, his proportions shifted, and his body was completely reorganized according to the image Lucas had created in his mind.
Minutes later, he stared at himself in the mirror.
The result was almost overwhelming.
After finding a pink satin robe with delicate lace details and a pair of fluffy slippers in the guest room closet, Lucas stepped onto the balcony and settled into an armchair.
She crossed her legs almost instinctively, surprised by the effortless elegance of the gesture.
Lucas smiled.
“I won,” she thought.
“Marcos is going to fall over when he sees that I turned myself into his dream woman.”
The balcony door opened.
Lucas raised her eyes, already preparing to enjoy her victory.
Then her smile froze.
The person walking through the door wasn't the skinny, slightly careless Marcos she had known for years.
It was a completely different man.
He was noticeably taller, with broad shoulders and heavily muscular arms stretching the sleeves of his shirt. His posture was imposing, his presence almost overwhelming.
Marcos hadn't changed gender.
He had simply transformed himself into the ultimate version of himself: stronger, more confident, and the absolute peak of his own masculinity.
Lucas blinked.
Her heart began beating faster beneath the satin robe.
“Marcos...? What did you do?” she asked. “The bet was to become what the other person wanted! Why did you turn into... that?”
Marcos took a step forward and folded his powerful arms, a slow, knowing smile appearing on his face.
His eyes traveled over Lucas sitting in the armchair, taking in the carefully styled black hair, the new curves, and the indignant expression she was desperately trying to maintain.
“Exactly, Lucas.”
His voice was considerably deeper now, calm and confident.
“The rule was to become what the other person would want.”
Lucas stared at him.
“I knew exactly what you were going to do. You've spent your whole life trying to prove that you know me better than anyone. So I took a gamble.”
He paused.
“I knew you'd put everything you had into creating the perfect woman for me.”
The realization hit Lucas like a bucket of cold water.
Her eyes widened.
She had walked straight into the trap.
Marcos had never intended to become a woman.
He had simply played on Lucas's ego, knowing his friend would go to extraordinary lengths to create the woman he thought Marcos secretly wanted.
And while Lucas was doing that, Marcos had prepared himself to become the man he believed she would need.
“You... you planned this,” Lucas stammered.
Her voice sounded softer and more uncertain than she intended.
For the first time, she found herself struggling to look away from the imposing figure standing in front of her.
Marcos walked closer to the armchair and leaned down slightly.
The contrast between them couldn't have been more obvious.
She was all softness and elegance in pink satin.
He was the embodiment of strength and confidence.
“I only dealt the cards, Lucas.”
Marcos smiled.
“But I have to admit...”
He reached out and gently touched a strand of her perfectly styled black hair.
“You really knew what you were doing.”
His smile widened.
“You look perfect.”
Lucas looked up at him, suddenly feeling much smaller than she had moments before.
The bet was over.
And somehow, she had lost.
But judging by the look in Marcos's eyes, Lucas was beginning to suspect that the real game had only just begun.
