D20 and Heart-Patterned Tights
Only now, his presence at the table had… a different kind of impact.
While most of his friends barely changed — a little shorter here, a bit grayer there — Jonathan had been one of the “lucky” ones. Instead of returning to his usual thirty-something body with a bit of a beer belly and scruffy beard, he now inhabited a much younger frame: slim, long-haired, flawless skin, and a fashion sense straight out of a geeky influencer’s Instagram. Apparently, the universe had a sense of humor.
At first, it was awkward. Sitting at the table with a stylish crossbody bag, tight shorts, and heart-patterned tights while planning a siege against necromancers took a level of detachment Jonathan only developed after many awkward stares and half-joking comments. But over time, he adapted. Or rather, he made everyone adapt.
The strangest part? How the group started to treat his new look. Before, Jonathan played fearless paladins, brutal hunters, hulking barbarians. Now, more often than not, he was cast as the damsel in distress, the kidnapped princess, or the merchant needing an escort. It was as if his friends unconsciously assigned new roles to match the new visuals.
“Jonathan, roll a Charisma check… with advantage, of course,” Raul, the game master, would smirk, and the others would laugh. Jonathan would roll his eyes, but he’d play along. Deep down, he knew he was still respected — not for his new body, or his trendy outfits, but for the genuine love they all shared for their fantasy world.
And honestly? Sometimes he had even more fun now. Playing with new archetypes, experimenting with different ways of storytelling and roleplay. It was freeing in a way. Even if he sometimes found himself staring at the mirror before heading out, thinking, “How the hell did I end up like this?”
Then he’d adjust his glasses, throw on that plaid blazer over a white tee, and swing the leather bag over his shoulder. The dice were waiting. And no matter what body he was in — the real Jonathan was still the one who showed up every week to battle monsters and tell stories with his friends.
Now, he just did it with a bit more style.
