Sudden change

“I… I don’t even know where to start,” Peter said, staring at the woman in front of him. She looked at him with calm eyes, a gentle smile playing on her lips, as if they were in the middle of an ordinary morning.

“Relax, my love,” she said, her voice sweet and confident.

Peter took a step back, completely bewildered.

“What do you mean love? Don’t you remember anything? You’re Tony! Tony from work! The guy who used to drive me crazy, who stole credit for everything I did, who made sure to overshadow me in front of the bosses and took every promotion that should’ve been mine!” Peter’s voice shook with a mix of anger and disbelief. “Yesterday, after work, I saw this old lady with white hair asking for help. I ran to assist her… and, well, you know I’m not great in a fight. I got my ass kicked. She thanked me and said that as a reward, she’d change my life for the better.”

He gestured around wildly.

“And now here we are. Look at you.

Tony — or rather, the woman who now claimed to be Tony — smiled, almost amused by his reaction.

“I told you to relax, my love,” she said, brushing a perfectly manicured hand through her hair. “Everything’s starting to make sense in my head. The memories are falling into place… and apparently, we’re married. Happily, even.”

Happily?!” Peter almost laughed, nervously. “Just yesterday, you undercut me in front of the entire team! Humiliated me! And now you’re here? Dressed like this, with that hair, that… body?! Saying you’re my wife?! Doesn’t that bother you even a little?”

Tony tilted her head slightly, like someone savoring a warm cup of coffee on a lazy morning.

“Peter, Peter, Peter…” she said, with a patience that bordered on teasing. “My memories were adjusted, to help me process this whole thing. And honestly? I’m relieved. I don’t have to hustle anymore in that toxic corporate mess, don’t have to chase pointless competition. I can just… live. Peacefully. And look around—this house! This luxury! You’ve been promoted to Vice President. I’m gorgeous, younger, insanely attractive,” she added with a playful wink, “and judging by my new memories… the girls in the office always thought you were kinda cute, you know? I used to tease you for it. But now, seeing you through these new eyes… well, if I’m going to be the trophy wife, you actually kind of fit the role.”

She giggled, her voice melodic. Peter was stunned.

He tried to find the old woman again, went back to the place where they had met, searching for any clue — anything that could explain or undo what had happened. But there was nothing. No trace of her. No way back.

All that remained was this new life. Luxurious, yes. Unreal, absolutely. But real nonetheless. And while Peter was still reeling from the impossibility of it all, Tony — now a radiant woman — seemed more and more at ease in her new role… and more than happy with all the luxuries her now-husband could offer.
