Potion Roulette: The Forgotten Kiss
The night at Marcus’s house was turning out to be, by far, the most surreal and loudest evening the guys had ever spent together. It all started when Lucas found a bizarre ad in the deep corners of the internet and decided to buy an imported board game called "Potion Roulette". The premise seemed completely foolish, the kind of game created just to liven up college parties: the box came with a board full of numbered spaces, stylized dice, and a cooler containing dozens of small, colorful, numbered vials—the so-called "potions." The rules were dead simple: everyone rolled the dice, moved their token, and if they missed the general knowledge question on that specific space, they were forced to chug the corresponding vial.
At first, they thought it was just juice mixed with food coloring and psychological tricks. But their skepticism didn't last long. In the very first rounds, Lucas missed a question about quantum physics and, after drinking vial number 05, spent two rounds barking and chasing his own tail like a proper golden retriever. Shortly after, it was Gabriel's turn. After failing to name the capital of Mongolia, he literally shrank and spent twenty minutes meowing from the top of the refrigerator, looking exactly like a fluffy Persian cat. When the effect finally wore off, they were all crying tears of laughter. The game felt like a mix of high-quality street magic and collective illusion. It was all reasonable and fun until it was Julius’s turn.
Julius, always the most confident one in the group, grabbed the dice, blew on it for good luck, and tossed it into the center of the board. The number six landed his token directly on a red space with a massive exclamation mark. Lucas picked up the trivia card and fired the question: "What is the speed of light in a vacuum?". Julius tried to guess a random number, but missed it completely.
"Vial 24 in case of failure!" Lucas announced, laughing out loud as he pulled a glowing, pearlescent liquid vial out of the cooler.
Julius shrugged, took the vial, and downed it in one single gulp. The sensation was instant. A wave of heat rushed up his neck, and a magical mist covered him for a few brief seconds. When the smoke finally cleared, the laughter in the living room died instantly. The silence that followed was absolutely deafening.
Sitting gracefully on the living room floor, exactly where Julius had been standing, was an absolutely stunning woman. She had long, sleek black hair cascading down her back, delicate yet striking facial features, and a statuesque, curvy body highlighted by a short romper with an orange rose floral print and a generous plunge neckline. On her long, shapely legs, the straps of a pair of white lace-up sandals went all the way up to her calves.
Marcus, the host of the house, widened his eyes, dropping his glass of beer right onto the carpet. That wasn't just any random woman. That was the exact likeness of his own wife, Vanessa, who had traveled on a business trip earlier that very afternoon.
"What the hell is this?!" Julius exclaimed, but the voice that came out was a velvety tone completely identical to Vanessa’s. He stared at his own delicate hands and his legs exposed in the floral outfit, utterly shocked. "Marcus, why are you looking at me like that?"
With trembling hands, Lucas rushed over to the game manual and ripped open the mysterious envelope that came sealed with black wax, looking for the description of vial 24. His pupils dilated as he read the effect out loud:
"Potion Roulette Vial 24: Biological mimicry effect based on hidden bonds. The user temporarily assumes the exact physical form of the last person they kissed in secret..."
The truth hit Marcus like a freight train. His best friend's betrayal with his wife was laid bare right there, flawlessly materialized in front of him. Panicking, Julius swallowed hard and looked toward the game box:
"Marcus! Get the antidote! The golden vial! Hurry up, change me back!"
Marcus walked slowly toward the board. His eyes were cold, filled with rage and resentment. He reached out, grabbed the golden vial of the "General Antidote," and looked straight into the eyes of that perfect copy of his wife.
With a dark, vengeful smile, Marcus turned his hand and smashed the potion onto the floor.
The glass vial shattered against the hardwood floor, spilling the precious golden liquid all over the carpet. Julius let out a sharp, terrified scream, while Lucas and Gabriel watched in stunned silence, completely paralyzed.
"Did you think you were getting off that easily, Julius?" Marcus said, his voice icy and slow. "Now you’re staying exactly like that. You’re going to find out what it feels like to be her."
Lucas, desperately trying to ease the widespread panic and find a technical fix, grabbed his phone to log back into the website to try and buy another antidote. He refreshed the page once, twice, three times.
"Guys... the problem just got a lot worse," Lucas whispered, turning his blank screen toward them. "The website is completely gone. The mysterious internet shop that sold me this game just vanished from the web. It gives a 404 error. It’s like they never even existed..."
Marcus crossed his arms, staring down at Julius—who was weeping bitterly in Vanessa’s body, ruining her perfect makeup while clutching the edge of her floral romper. The website was gone, the antidote was destroyed, and Julius now belonged to Marcus's game.
