From Grumpy Husband to Gorgeous Granddaughter: The Great Shift Left Him Trapped!
Susan looked at her "husband" on the bed, who was carefully flipping through an old, dusty book with the title printed on the cover: "Why do I need English?".
It was an almost unbelievable sight. Her now "ex-husband," a far cry from the out-of-shape figure he used to be, had never asked himself that question before. Despite living for years right on the border between Mexico and the United States, he had always strictly refused to learn a single word of English, stubborn and proud in his daily routine. But the rules of the world had changed drastically. After the global phenomenon known as the Great Shift, he had woken up trapped in a completely different body: the silhouette of a delicate young woman, with voluminous dark hair and features that exuded a classic innocence.
Susan had to admit to herself: he seemed to be enjoying being in that new body way too much. After all, the choice of clothing, accessories, and the overall style belonged to someone who was clearly rediscovering themselves. He spent hours in front of the mirror perfectly tying the white ribbon in his teased hair, matching modern bracelets with statement rings, and parading around the room in that light, blue-and-white striped dress. The grumpy man of the past had given way to an extremely vain creature.
Still, he would have to learn the new language as a crucial favor to the original owner of that body. At the request of the girl's grandmother — an elderly and very sick woman living across the border —, the "granddaughter" needed to make one last trip to the United States. The elderly woman's dying wish was to see, even if for the very last time, the familiar face of the granddaughter she loved so much. It was too noble a mission to deny.
"It’s no use grumbling, darling," Susan said, leaning against the bedroom doorway with a gentle smile, watching him play with his bracelet while holding the book. "If you want to cross that border and show off those new outfits of yours over there, you’re going to have to get past page one."
The transformed man let out a sigh, but deep down, a hint of excitement gleamed in his new eyes. He adjusted his dress, crossed his legs on the white bed, and stared back at the yellowed pages. It was going to be a long journey, but he was determined to be the most stylish granddaughter that old lady had ever seen.
