He Made a Birthday Wish... and His Friend Became the Surprise

Samuel closed his eyes and made a wish over the simple little cupcake his only friend, Jace, had bought to celebrate the occasion. Deep down, Samuel felt a little melancholy, but he was grateful. Apparently, Jace was the only person in the world who still cared enough to remember his birthday.

He took a breath, blew out the candle, and made his wish.

Then the world seemed to hold its breath.

Things began changing for no apparent reason.

First, the dull gray walls of the college dorm room simply vanished, replaced by something straight out of a pastel fairy tale. Metallic and latex balloons in shades of pink and silver began inflating by themselves along the walls, while the floor disappeared beneath a thick, fluffy layer of mist that looked like it was made of cotton candy clouds.

Samuel blinked, completely bewildered.

But the real shock came next.

Jace, who had been standing right in front of him, began to transform.

His closely cropped, military-style hair was replaced in an instant by enormous waves of dark, silky hair. The strands twisted upward into a perfectly styled bun, shaped almost like an oversized bow and decorated with tiny heart-shaped clips.

His face softened. His lips took on a natural rosy color, while his broad shoulders narrowed beneath a puffy pink dress with a lace-trimmed sweetheart neckline and dramatically feminine off-the-shoulder sleeves.

The magical transformation continued at breathtaking speed, reshaping his entire body and giving him graceful curves and slender legs covered by delicate lace-trimmed thigh-high stockings.

Halfway through the transformation, his voice had already begun changing into something softer, higher, and almost velvety.

Jace's eyes widened in panic.

— DUDE! What did you wish for?!

Samuel remained frozen in his chair, staring in amazement at the beautiful woman appearing before him.

He answered with surprising calm.

— Well... I wished that, instead of some silly friend remembering my birthday, there would be a gorgeous woman here for us to celebrate with...

The beginning of a furious curse escaped Jace's lips as he stared at his own delicate hands and long fingernails.

But before the sentence could be completed, the magic seemed to make one final click inside his mind.

Something changed.

Jace blinked behind his long lashes.

The anger disappeared from his eyes, replaced by a mischievous, almost playful sparkle.

The curse died in his throat and transformed into a melodic little giggle.

— ...You son of a... dear mother-in-law!

Samuel finally let out the breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding.

Jace, or whatever beautiful name now suited this pink little fairy, adjusted the pearl necklace around his neck and gracefully settled among the artificial clouds.

Then he looked at Samuel with a perfectly mischievous smile.

The initial horror was completely gone, replaced by something far more dangerous: complicity.

— You know what? — Jace whispered, leaning forward as the layers of pink tulle spread around him. — I think I'm going to love spending my other birthdays with you.
