The Mafia's Perfect Punishment
He wore a convincing smile, sold secrets to the mafia in exchange for protection and luxury, and was certain that his charming facade made him untouchable.
I know how the game works, he often reminded himself.
But in the underworld, people who play with two faces sometimes end up losing their own.
They didn't use bullets.
The mafia preferred something far more surgical.
Now, lying in the open trunk of an old black car inside an abandoned warehouse, Gabriel stared at the concrete ceiling.
He had spent his entire life selling a carefully constructed illusion. Now, the smile on his face wasn't the only thing that was fake.
Almost everything about her appearance had been manufactured.
Full, painted lips. A sculpted figure beneath delicate black lingerie. A perfectly narrowed waist and carefully shaped hips. Every detail had been designed to erase the man Gabriel had been and replace him with a striking dark-haired woman whose defiant eyes still carried the same calculating mind.
Footsteps echoed across the damp concrete.
A man in a dark suit stopped beside the trunk, looking down at her with a cynical smile.
"The boss loved the result," the henchman said, leaning closer. "He specifically ordered that you stay very close to him from now on. He wants to keep a close eye on you."
Gabriel tried to move, preparing to protest, but a heavy metallic clinking came from her ankles.
The henchman chuckled at her startled expression.
"And remember: with your new little uniform accessory, running away will be almost impossible without making quite a racket."
Lying there, feeling the unfamiliar weight around her ankles, Gabriel's mind went into overdrive.
She needed a plan.
Unfortunately, the mathematical possibilities were approaching zero.
The old saying had never seemed more appropriate: if you run, the beast catches you; if you stay, the beast eats you.
And judging by the boss's intentions, the word eats was beginning to sound dangerously literal.
Gabriel started weighing the options.
Run: Impossible.
Even if she somehow managed to jump out of the trunk without breaking an ankle in those absurdly high heels, the heavy accessory around her ankles would announce every step she took. She would be caught long before reaching the warehouse gates.
Beg: Pathetic.
The mafia boss wasn't exactly famous for his mercy. Crying in that new, surprisingly melodic voice would probably do nothing except feed his ego.
Or, worse, encourage him.
Play the game: Dangerous.
But it was the only option left.
If this new body was an elaborate deception designed to attract the boss's attention, perhaps Gabriel could turn that deception into an advantage.
Gabriel had always been a manipulator.
If the boss wanted this woman close, then he would get exactly what he asked for.
Just not necessarily in the way he expected.
She swallowed hard, feeling her throat tighten.
The henchman's warning had made one thing painfully clear. If the boss wanted her close enough to monitor every step, then this transformation hadn't simply been intended as punishment.
The result was flawless.
The mafia hadn't created a monster to frighten their enemies.
They had created a sophisticated, carefully crafted woman who looked as though she had stepped straight out of a designer's imagination.
And judging by the boss's reaction, he considered his investment extremely valuable.
The henchman extended a gloved hand, waiting for her to climb out of the trunk.
His eyes lingered on her with unmistakable fascination.
Gabriel knew exactly what he was looking at.
It wasn't merely the flawless black outfit or the precision of her new appearance. There was something else in his expression.
Attention.
Curiosity.
A momentary loss of focus.
The kind of reaction that a truly magnetic presence could provoke even in someone who had spent years navigating the criminal underworld.
And that was when Gabriel finally understood.
The panic disappeared.
In its place came something much more familiar.
Cold calculation.
The mafia thought they had designed the perfect punishment to break him.
Instead, they had made one crucial strategic mistake.
They had given him a new and extraordinarily valuable bargaining chip.
If Gabriel's old fake smiles and silver tongue had already been enough to manipulate dangerous criminals, what could he accomplish now with an entirely new appearance, an undeniable presence, and a carefully constructed identity?
The henchman's reaction was the first practical test.
Proof that the transformation had given him something he hadn't expected.
He might have lost his old identity.
But the strategist inside him was still there.
They wanted him to play the role of a submissive victim.
Gabriel had other plans.
She would use every detail of this elaborate new identity to rewrite the rules.
Straightening her posture, she allowed the henchman to help her out of the trunk.
The unfamiliar accessory around her ankles gave another quiet metallic jingle against the concrete.
It wasn't the sound of defeat.
It was the sound of the game beginning.
