Caught in the Pink
The woman standing in front of him — or rather, the guy he had known since college — suddenly jumped.
Wally had been standing with his back to the door, adjusting the hem of a frilly miniskirt Dylan recognized instantly. It was part of the pink lingerie set with black polka dots his ex-girlfriend had left behind years ago.
But that wasn't all.
Wally was also wearing a long, wavy blonde wig and carefully applied makeup, complete with striking lipstick. Dylan connected the dots in an instant. Everything Wally was wearing had been stored together in the same old memory box his ex had forgotten at the back of the closet — a box Dylan had never quite managed to throw away.
The silence in the apartment was deafening, broken only by the faint hum of city traffic outside the window.
Wally slowly turned his head over his shoulder.
His eyes widened in sheer panic when he met Dylan's gaze. The hands that had been casually tugging at the silky fabric of his outfit froze in place.
"Dylan!" Wally's voice came out noticeably higher than usual, a mixture of shock and complete embarrassment. "You... weren't supposed to be back until the end of the week!"
Dylan blinked, still trying to process what he was seeing.
Apparently, his bored friend had taken the old make yourself at home rule a little too literally.
His eyes moved from the perfectly styled blonde wig to the black stockings and garter straps, then back to Wally's face. There was something almost surreal about seeing his longtime friend standing there, caught somewhere between absolute humiliation and surprising confidence.
"I moved up my return," Dylan finally managed to say, his voice faltering slightly before he let out an awkward laugh. "And apparently you found my ex's old box in the back of the closet."
He raised an eyebrow.
"Did you really decide to try the whole thing, Wally?"
Wally swallowed hard, his face turning bright red beneath the makeup. For a moment, he seemed ready to disappear into the floor.
Then he straightened his shoulders.
He was clearly embarrassed, but there was also a strange spark of determination in his expression.
"Maybe I got a little curious," he admitted.
Dylan glanced at the forgotten box, then back at his friend.
The evening that had started as nothing more than boredom and curiosity had suddenly become something neither of them had expected.
And judging by the look on Wally's face, this might not be the last surprise waiting inside that box.
