The Perfect Plan to Get Rid of Her Husband

— Helen, are you sure this outfit is okay for watching the game with everyone? I mean… you know this is my first time going out since that "factory accident" changed my gender. Everyone is curious to see what happened to me.

— Of course it's okay, Tom! Honestly, if they're all so curious, why not satisfy their curiosity? — Helen replied with an encouraging smile as she took one last look at him.

Tom nervously adjusted the long, wavy brown hair that now fell perfectly over his shoulders. Even after everything that had happened, he still couldn't quite believe the reflection staring back at him.

The chemical accident had changed far more than his gender. His entire body had been transformed, leaving him with a completely unfamiliar silhouette, a feminine face, long hair, and curves he was still struggling to get used to.

And Helen had decided that tonight was the perfect opportunity to put that transformation to the test.

She had helped him choose an outfit from their daughter's wardrobe: a daring black lace crop top paired with an extremely fitted pair of white denim shorts. The combination emphasized his new figure in a way that made it almost impossible to pretend nothing had changed.

Tom tugged nervously at the hem of the top.

— I still think people are going to stare.

— They probably will, — Helen admitted. — But you can't hide forever.

There was something almost too cheerful about the way she said it.

Tom didn't notice.

He was too busy staring at himself.

The woman in the mirror looked confident, glamorous, and completely at ease with her appearance. Tom, meanwhile, still felt like a man who had accidentally walked into someone else's life and hadn't yet figured out how to get back out.

What he didn't know was that Helen had already made her own plans for that life.

As far as she was concerned, the husband she had married had effectively disappeared the moment the accident happened. She had tried to convince herself that staying together was the right thing to do, but the more she thought about it, the more certain she became that their marriage was already over.

There was just one problem.

She didn't want to be the villain.

So Helen had come up with a solution.

If Tom could move on first, then perhaps she wouldn't feel so guilty when she finally asked for a divorce.

And what better way to help him move on than to introduce the newly transformed Tom to everyone he knew?

She had deliberately chosen an outfit that would make it impossible for anyone at the party to overlook him. Her plan was simple: send Tom out among his old friends and coworkers, let them see the astonishing transformation for themselves, and give him every opportunity to start a new chapter.

Then, once Tom was surrounded by new possibilities, Helen could quietly step aside.

At least, that was the theory.

The football game turned out to be almost irrelevant.

Within minutes of Tom arriving, conversation shifted from the match to him.

People stared.

Questions followed.

A few old friends barely recognized him at first, while others couldn't stop talking about how dramatically the accident had changed his appearance. Tom spent most of the evening answering the same questions over and over, growing increasingly embarrassed as the attention followed him from one conversation to another.

Helen watched everything from across the room.

And then Tom's phone started vibrating.

Once.

Twice.

Then repeatedly.

New messages. New friend requests. Invitations. People he hadn't spoken to in years suddenly finding excuses to start conversations.

Tom looked at his screen with growing confusion.

— What is going on tonight?

Helen took a sip of her drink, hiding a satisfied smile.

Her plan was working.

Maybe even too well.

By the end of the evening, Tom had more new messages than he could possibly answer, and several of his old friends had already made plans to see him again.

Helen quietly watched him laugh at something on his phone.

For the first time in weeks, she felt a strange sense of relief.

Getting Tom started on a new life might be much easier than she had imagined.

Perhaps the divorce papers wouldn't be nearly as painful to deliver after all.

And judging by the number of messages still arriving on Tom's phone…

She might not even have to help him very much.
