A kind act

"How sweet… you even brought me flowers! You’re making it look like I’m your girlfriend!" Gabriel exclaimed with a shy smile, hugging the bouquet delicately.

Bernard smiled, stepping closer.
"But you are… I mean, the body is my girlfriend’s, sure. But the mind is still my best friend. I just thought I’d find you sprawled on the couch in that old hoodie, all depressed after this whole body swap thing. You seemed really down."

Gabriel took a deep breath and shrugged, settling into the chair with a surprising grace he hadn’t noticed in himself before.
"Yeah, I was feeling low. But since we haven’t found a way out of this yet… I figured maybe feeling better had to start from the outside. It was getting late, and I found this nightgown in her drawer. It fit. And somehow, wearing something she’d actually wear made me feel a little less lost."

Bernard watched him silently, eyes soft, as if seeing Gabriel in a completely new light.

"And the makeup?" he asked, a small smile playing at his lips.

"YouTube tutorial," Gabriel replied with a quiet laugh.

"And the hair, all done like that?"

"Oh, that ridiculous collection of creams, masks, sprays… I decided to use it properly. I mean, we’re borrowing each other’s bodies, the least we can do is take good care of them, right?"

There was a gentle pause, the kind that feels safe. Bernard stepped closer, lightly brushing a strand of hair from Gabriel’s face.
"You look… beautiful. And calmer than you were before. Sleeping better?"

Gabriel hesitated, eyes lowering for a moment.
"I am, actually. Ever since you started with those skin treatments, the teas, the massages… I feel more… whole. It’s strange, but… the more time passes, the harder it is to picture going back to that old life. Like something here… is starting to make more sense."

Bernard smiled but said nothing. He simply sat beside Gabriel, and in the soft silence between them, something new began to bloom — delicate as the flowers in Gabriel’s lap, yet with roots that might grow deeper than either of them ever expected.
