The Price of Luck
That Friday afternoon had one simple goal: forget the chaos of exam week with a good old gaming session. The four childhood friends were scattered around the bedroom, surrounded by controllers, energy drink cans, and inside jokes. Everything was perfectly normal until the betting started. Since nobody had any money to spare, they agreed on something simple: everyone would put one dollar on the table.
When it was Dylan's turn, he searched through his pockets and pulled out an unusual coin. It was heavy, worn, and looked like something straight out of a museum. He had never paid much attention to it. In fact, it was a good-luck charm he'd received from an elderly woman as a thank-you after helping her with her groceries at the supermarket. To Dylan, it was nothing more than a piece of old metal.
The decisive match was against Jay, the best player in the group. Winning meant getting his lucky charm back and earning three extra dollars—the perfect amount for a sandwich for dinner.
The tension filled the room.
On the screen, Jay's character launched what looked like an endless, unavoidable combo. That's when, in a moment of pure desperation, Dylan landed a perfectly timed medium punch.
The hit broke Jay's combo and drained the last of his character's health.
K.O.
Dylan celebrated, pulling the pile of coins toward himself. As he picked up the charm, Jay simply grinned and joked:
"Man, that thing looks like one of those magic charms from an old movie. Who knows? Maybe it actually works. Make a wish."
Dylan laughed and, glancing at his friends sprawled across the carpet, blurted out without thinking:
"The only thing I want right now is to not be surrounded by a bunch of smelly nerds, but by a bunch of sweet girls!"
Poof.
The sound was like a light bulb popping, accompanied by a faint puff of smoke that smelled strangely like bubblegum.
When Dylan's vision cleared, his three friends were gone.
In their place stood three stunning girls wearing vibrant tulle nightgowns trimmed with feathers and satin gloves, as if they had stepped straight out of a glamorous slumber party. Their eyes were fixed on him, looking at him as though he were the last cookie in the jar.
The charm in Dylan's hand now felt completely cold and lifeless.
He swallowed hard, feeling a cold bead of sweat run down the back of his neck.
What was he supposed to do now?
The silence in the bedroom was so thick that Dylan could hear his own heart pounding in his chest. He looked at the three girls, then at the floor, where the video game controllers were still scattered around.
"Man... what happened to your voice? And why do you smell like strawberries?"
The voice coming from the girl in the middle was sweet, soft, and slightly high-pitched, but the annoyed tone and unmistakable slang gave her away instantly.
It was Jay.
She looked down, and her stream of complaints vanished in an instant. Her eyes widened as she noticed her new curves, her exposed legs, and the lightweight aqua-green nightgown.
"What the hell is this?!"
Jay let out a nervous laugh, but the magic of the charm was already coursing through her veins, turning her nerdy competitiveness into pure flirtatious confidence.
She took a light step toward Dylan, gently placing a hand against his chest and looking up at him.
"You know what? That medium punch was pure luck. I want a rematch right now, Dylan! And if I win... the prize won't be one dollar. It'll be several kisses from you. So, are you in, or are you scared?"
Dylan swallowed hard, his face burning from Jay's sudden closeness.
Before he could answer, Matt—the brunette on the right—stepped forward. She folded her arms beneath her chest, emphasizing the neckline of her nightgown, and smiled with a magnetic confidence she'd never possessed in her original form.
"Forget the video game for now, Jay. This girl's stomach is growling," Matt said, subtly licking her lips as she looked Dylan up and down. "You won the match and took our money, Dylan. So you're buying us a snack. Just don't forget that, as far as I'm concerned, you're the main course tonight."
Dylan felt his legs trembling.
As he tried to process the flirting, the third girl stole the spotlight.
Leo, the blonde on the left, was standing in shock in front of the wardrobe mirror. She ran her pink-gloved hands over her smooth face and the curves of her transformed body.
"Hold on, guys! You're ignoring the real problem here!"
Leo stared in horror at her own flawless reflection.
"Where are my hairy arms? Where's my stubble?! Where's my fit gym body? I turned into a blonde goddess in a nightgown!"
Leo turned toward the others, gripping the hem of her pink dress with both hands, her face flushed with embarrassment and confusion.
Then a thought crossed her mind, and she blurted it out without a filter:
"Wait... How am I supposed to explain to my parents that I have a boyfriend now?! And that boyfriend is Dylan?!"
The room went silent for two seconds.
Leo's question landed like a bomb, but not for the reason she expected.
The charm's magic, which required the girls to be "sweet" toward Dylan, interpreted the word "boyfriend" as a territorial challenge.
Jay stepped away from Dylan's chest, folded her arms, and narrowed her eyes at Leo.
"Boyfriend? Hold on there, Leo. If Dylan is dating anyone here, it'll be the champion of the rematch. Which means me."
"Oh, please," Matt laughed, tossing her dark hair over her shoulders before lying sideways across Dylan's bed in an incredibly inviting pose. "Dylan likes girls with attitude, not someone who's going to cry about losing her beard. The official girlfriend spot is already mine. He just needs to come over here and bring me my snack... and whatever else he wants."
"Not a chance! I'm the perfect blonde from the picture!" Leo shot back, walking over to Dylan and slipping her arm through his, pressing her soft body against his side.
"I asked first, so I get priority!"
Dylan stared at the three of them, completely trapped in the middle of their argument.
His three best childhood friends were now gorgeous women dressed in provocative outfits—and they were literally fighting over which one of them would become his official girlfriend.
