Great Shift

"I'm all set for bed," Jacob announced, adjusting the silky strap of his nightgown as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Antony's eyes widened at the sight.
"What do you mean you're going to sleep next to me wearing that?"

"It’s what I found in your wife’s bag," Jacob replied, folding his arms and pouting. "And believe me, this is the least scandalous thing she packed. Judging by the rest, she had very different plans for this trip. And there’s no way I’m sleeping next to you without clothes on."

"I don’t know… can’t you just wear something normal?" Antony tried, glancing away. But he couldn’t help noticing how his friend — now in his wife’s body — kept admiring himself in the mirror, studying every curve and detail with childlike fascination.
"Dude... it kinda looks like you're enjoying this."

Jacob turned sharply, his eyes flashing with irritation.
"Not my fault. You saw the notification on your phone — some ridiculous percentage of the population suddenly swapped bodies. I was at the office, minding my own business, when bam — everything went white. Next thing I know, I'm on a beach, with you. I looked down and realized this body wasn’t mine. And when I saw you right there, it all sort of clicked… kinda."

Antony rubbed the back of his neck, clearly uneasy.
"Yeah, I get it, but… that still doesn’t mean you have to sleep like that. Come on, I’ll lend you a big shirt, something comfy..."

"Nope. I made my choice," Jacob said with a mischievous little smirk, though his tone stayed firm. "And if you push me, I’ll pick something even more outrageous. I mean, you’ve seen her wear this one a million times, right?"

A heavy silence settled between them.

"Dude… not really," Antony finally admitted, lowering his gaze. "It’s been a while since we really connected. We’ve been kind of distant lately. Our therapist said we needed more intimacy, more time together... That’s why we booked this trip. I thought maybe… I don’t know, maybe it would help."

Jacob looked at him for a moment, the teasing smile slowly fading. The nightgown, which had seemed like a joke before, now felt like some cruel twist of fate.

In the end, maybe the therapist had been right. This vacation really would bring change to their lives — though not in any way they could have anticipated. And Jacob, ever the curious soul, wasn’t just adapting to his new role… he was starting, bit by bit, to embrace it.
