The Price of Blind Protection

Franklin blinked, trying to clear the strange fog that had suddenly settled over his mind. He found himself sitting on the railing of a colonial-style house, surrounded by blue hydrangeas that perfectly matched the afternoon sky.

But something was terribly wrong.

His legs seemed unusually long, his skin felt incredibly smooth, and when he looked down, the sight of a blue gingham outfit with delicate frills and high-heeled sandals nearly took his breath away.

Where was he? And why was he wearing something like that?

A fragmented memory began slipping through his fingers like grains of sand.

He remembered being furious. His son, Lucas, an unruly teenager who was constantly getting into fights and trouble at school, had returned home crying the previous day. He claimed that a strange neighbor had threatened him using some kind of "strange words."

As an overprotective father with a notoriously short temper, Franklin hadn't hesitated. He had stormed across the street, determined to kick down the man's door and confront whoever dared to threaten his family.

He remembered approaching that very porch. He remembered shouting and pounding his fist against the wooden front door.

After that... nothing but a flash of blue light and a tingling sensation that seemed to reshape every inch of his being.

Inside the house, Clara watched through the peephole with a cold, satisfied smile. She had known exactly what her aggressive neighbor would do when his son came home crying. Men like Franklin, she believed, understood only one language: intimidation.

That was why she had prepared the perfect trap beneath the entrance doormat. An ancient reversal rune, a spell passed down through generations of her family.

Lucas, Franklin's son, had actually been responsible for the entire conflict. He had been harassing Clara's own son for weeks. But in the end, the one who received the ultimate punishment wasn't the unruly teenager. It was the father who had rushed to defend him without bothering to learn the truth.

The spell had done more than transform Franklin's body into that of a delicate young woman. It was gradually rewriting his memories, minute by minute. The anger and certainty of a middle-aged family man were being replaced by the confusion of a girl who could barely remember how she had ended up sitting on that porch.

Franklin, or whoever she was becoming, reached up and touched her long blonde hair, gathered into a ponytail with a matching gingham ribbon.

Her phone began ringing inside her pocket.

It was Lucas.

But when she answered, the voice that came out was a soft, feminine tone filled with confusion and alarm.

The remnants of Franklin's former mind struggled to understand who the boy on the other end of the call was. Meanwhile, Clara quietly stepped away from the door, letting out a low, satisfied laugh.

The lesson had been delivered.

From that day forward, the neighborhood's toughest father would no longer be there to protect his son. And as Franklin's memories continued to fade, even the reason for his anger would eventually disappear.
