The Flight Home
The global, instantaneous phenomenon had caught humanity completely by surprise. But for Pete, the altitude was what mattered most. After all, the transformation had struck him in the middle of a flight, thirty thousand feet above the ground.
Now that the plane had finally landed and the initial chaos in the cabin had begun to settle, Pete sat exhausted in the emergency exit doorway, trying to make sense of everything that had happened.
He looked down at himself, slowly taking in his crossed legs wrapped in sheer dark stockings, the fitted skirt hugging his newly curved figure, and the high heels that somehow balanced perfectly on his feet.
The immaculate navy-blue uniform and the elegant red scarf tied around his neck looked as though they had been tailored specifically for him.
Or rather, for the beautiful flight attendant he had somehow become.
Pete rested his chin on his hand and stared out toward the runway. The nervousness left over from the emergency landing was gradually being replaced by an entirely different kind of anxiety.
His mind kept circling around one desperate question.
How, exactly, was he supposed to explain to his wife that the husband who had left home on a business trip was coming back dressed as a flight attendant?
And, judging by the way that uniform fit him, apparently looking far too convincing in it?
Pete sighed.
The Great Shift had changed billions of lives that day.
But somehow, he had a feeling his wife was going to take his transformation especially personally.
