The Curse of the Boss: My Assistant Took My Company
At forty-five, he had everything a man could ask for: money, success, a beautiful home, a respectable marriage, and a career built over decades.
He also had a mistress.
The affair with his secretary had lasted six months before his wife finally discovered it.
The argument that followed was explosive.
Ricardo tried to explain. He tried to justify himself. He even tried blaming the stress of running the firm.
None of it worked.
At the height of her anger, his wife opened a small box that had belonged to her grandmother and pulled out an old amulet.
She held it toward him and spoke words Ricardo would never forget.
"Everything you touch from now on will remind you of what you've done. It will transform you into the most sensual and vulnerable version of yourself."
The amulet flashed.
Ricardo laughed nervously.
He shouldn't have.
The next morning, Ricardo discovered that the curse was very real.
The moment he put on his usual white dress shirt, the fabric began to change.
The buttons disappeared. The cut became tighter. The material became softer and more delicate.
His trousers transformed into a fitted skirt.
His ordinary stockings became black thigh-high stockings.
And then his body began to change.
His shoulders narrowed.
His waist slimmed.
His hips widened.
His chest changed.
His voice became softer, while his hair grew longer and lighter.
Within hours, Ricardo Almeida was staring at a completely different person in the mirror—a striking blonde woman with her hair tied in a messy bun, delicate features and thin-framed glasses.
Yet there were still traces of the man he had been.
Enough for Ricardo to recognize himself.
That was perhaps the cruelest part.
He quickly discovered another rule.
Anything he touched could transform.
And the curse always seemed to choose the most embarrassing possible version.
A simple shirt became something revealing.
A pair of trousers became a short skirt.
A jacket became an elegant but impossibly fitted piece of clothing.
After several disastrous attempts to dress normally, Ricardo gave up.
He began working at night and on weekends, entering the firm through the back door when the building was empty.
He communicated with his employees through emails and messages.
Nobody knew what had happened to their boss.
And Ricardo intended to keep it that way.
Until one Friday afternoon.
Ricardo had returned to the office to prepare some important memorandums for a major negotiation.
Unfortunately, he was missing several files.
He sent a message to Nathan, one of the firm's younger lawyers.
"I'm at my computer, but I can't find the important files you were supposed to send me this morning."
Nathan was already close to leaving.
He looked at his phone and immediately remembered the forgotten attachment.
— Oh, no...
He rushed back to the office, logged into his computer, attached the missing document and sent it.
Then he decided it would be better to apologize personally.
He walked toward Ricardo's office, knocked twice and opened the door.
— Mr. Ricardo, I—
Nathan stopped.
Sitting on his boss's desk was a woman he'd never seen before.
She wore a white blouse, a dark skirt, glasses and had blonde hair tied in a messy bun.
Nathan stared.
The woman stared back.
Then she suddenly spoke.
— Nathan? What are you doing here? And why did you enter my office without warning?
Nathan froze.
My office?
He looked at the nameplate on the door.
RICARDO ALMEIDA — MANAGING PARTNER
He slowly looked back at the woman.
— Excuse me... who are you?
Ricardo swallowed.
There was no way out.
— Nathan...
The younger lawyer's eyes widened.
— Mr. Ricardo?
Silence.
Ricardo sighed.
— Well... let me explain.
Nathan stared at him for several seconds.
Then everything clicked.
The voice.
The mannerisms.
The impatient expression.
The way he tapped his fingers against the desk when irritated.
There was no doubt.
— Oh, my God.
Ricardo immediately raised a finger.
— Don't.
Nathan closed the door behind him.
— So that's why you've been disappearing.
— I can explain.
— And that's why nobody has seen you for weeks.
— Nathan...
— And your wife—
— Nathan.
The younger lawyer finally stopped.
Then he smiled.
Ricardo immediately became suspicious.
— Why are you smiling?
Nathan leaned against the door.
— Because I think we can solve this problem.
Nathan returned to the desk and folded his arms.
— Here's my proposal. You put me in charge of the firm.
Ricardo stared at him.
— What?
— Officially, I'm the managing partner. You become my executive assistant.
Ricardo's face changed instantly.
— Me? An assistant?
— Exactly.
— I'm the owner of this company!
Nathan raised an eyebrow.
— And you're currently hiding in your own office because you're afraid someone will discover the truth.
Ricardo opened his mouth, then closed it.
Nathan continued.
— Think about it. You know every client, every contract, every procedure and every trick involved in running this place. You stay beside me and teach me how everything works.
He pointed toward the front door.
— And you'll finally be able to enter through the front door instead of sneaking in at midnight.
Ricardo frowned.
— I'd still be your assistant.
— Executive assistant.
— That's the same thing!
— Not quite.
Nathan smiled.
— The company stays under control. You can keep an eye on the employees. You can monitor every negotiation. You can make recommendations.
He paused.
— But the final stamp will be mine.
Ricardo's eyes narrowed.
— You're enjoying this far too much.
— Maybe a little.
Nathan pulled out his phone.
— And I'm being very generous, Mr. Ricardo.
Ricardo looked at the phone.
— What does that mean?
Nathan held it up.
— One message from me, and the entire company learns exactly what happened to its missing boss.
Ricardo's expression turned pale.
— You wouldn't.
— I wouldn't.
Nathan smiled.
— As long as you accept my proposal.
Ricardo stared at him for a long moment.
He hated it.
He hated every part of it.
But Nathan was right.
It was the only way to remain inside the company without destroying his reputation.
Finally, Ricardo sighed.
— Fine.
Nathan smiled.
— Fine what?
— I accept.
Nathan extended his hand.
Ricardo reluctantly shook it.
Nathan turned toward the door.
Then stopped.
— One last thing.
Ricardo groaned.
— What now?
Nathan looked back at him.
— Remember, you'll be my faithful assistant.
Ricardo rolled his eyes.
— I know.
Nathan smiled.
— Good.
He opened the door.
— Because from now on...
He paused.
— Your company is in my hands.
Months Later
The arrangement somehow worked.
Nathan became the official head of Almeida & Associates.
Ricardo became his "executive assistant."
And, much to Ricardo's annoyance, Nathan became very comfortable giving him orders.
— Ricardo, I need those contracts.
— Ricardo, organize the meeting.
— Ricardo, check the client's file.
And occasionally:
— Ricardo, coffee.
Every time, Ricardo wondered how his life had possibly reached this point.
Yet the firm flourished.
Nathan proved to be surprisingly capable, while Ricardo remained the invisible force behind every important decision.
Then Ricardo's wife filed for divorce.
She received half of their marital assets.
The houses.
The investments.
The savings.
Everything she was legally entitled to.
But there was one thing she didn't know.
Months earlier, Ricardo had quietly reorganized his business interests, transferring control of the company through a confidential agreement involving Nathan.
By the time the divorce was finalized, Nathan was already the official controlling partner.
Ricardo had protected what remained of his business.
Or so he thought.
One evening, Nathan walked into his office and placed a thick folder on the desk.
— We need to discuss something.
Ricardo opened it.
His expression slowly changed.
— Is this... a marriage proposal?
Nathan smiled.
— Yes.
Ricardo turned the page.
Then another.
His eyes widened.
The contract was extremely detailed.
Full community of property.
Mutual financial rights.
And one particularly important clause:
Fifty percent of the company would be transferred to Nathan's name.
Ricardo closed the folder.
— You planned all of this?
— Not all of it.
Nathan sat across from him.
— But I learned from you.
Ricardo stared at the contract.
— I want to refuse.
— I know.
— I really want to refuse.
— I know that too.
Nathan smiled.
— But I also know you're going to sign.
Ricardo sighed.
He picked up the pen.
— You're impossible.
— And yet, I'm the one holding the contract.
Ricardo signed.
Nathan extended his hand.
After a moment, Ricardo shook it.
— Congratulations.
Nathan smiled.
— To us.
Ricardo leaned back in his chair and stared at the ceiling.
The man who had once believed that money, power and a corner office gave him control over everything now had a new body, a new position, a new husband...
And a boss.
He couldn't help laughing.
Perhaps that old curse had been more precise than he realized.
It hadn't simply transformed his clothes.
It hadn't simply transformed his body.
It had transformed his entire life.
And, ironically, the man who had once thought he owned everything had finally learned the value of partnership.
Even if his partner happened to be the former employee who had blackmailed him into becoming his assistant.
Nathan picked up the folder.
— Ready for your next assignment, Mrs. Almeida?
Ricardo glared at him.
— Don't push your luck.
Nathan grinned.
— Too late.
And somewhere in the back of Ricardo's mind, he could almost hear his wife's voice again:
Everything you touch from now on will remind you of what you've done.
For once, Ricardo had to admit...
she had been absolutely right. 😏
