The Contract with Rafael

Marco had always been the kind of man who seemed to take up too much space wherever he went.

Big, muscular, loud, and blessed with a confidence that bordered on arrogance, he had spent most of his life believing that intimidating people was a kind of talent. Back in high school, nobody dared stand up to him. And one of his favorite targets had been Rafael.

Rafael was his complete opposite.

Thin, quiet, intelligent, and always carrying some book or notebook under his arm, he was exactly the kind of kid Marco enjoyed picking on. Nicknames, shoving, humiliating jokes in front of their classmates...

Marco had never imagined that the quiet nerd would one day become the person he would desperately need.

Life, however, had a peculiar sense of humor.

Marco was accused of a crime he hadn't committed.

No matter how much he insisted he was innocent, the evidence was overwhelming. Witnesses, records, images, and documents all pointed in the same direction: toward him.

After months of trying to prove his innocence and realizing that every attempt only made things worse, Marco made a desperate decision.

He disappeared.

For almost an entire year, he lived like a ghost.

Without identification, money, or anyone he could trust, he moved between cheap boarding houses, slept wherever he could, and avoided any contact that might reveal his location.

Until one rainy afternoon, sitting in front of a painfully slow computer in a forgotten internet café, a news article caught his attention.

He almost dropped his coffee.

"It can't be..."

On the screen was a face he knew very well.

Rafael Almeida, founder and CEO of one of the country's largest nanotechnology companies.

The article talked about his fortune, his scientific breakthroughs, and a new generation of technology capable of temporarily altering human tissue.

Marco stared at the photograph.

The same Rafael.

The nerd he had bullied for years.

Now he was wealthy.

Powerful.

And apparently smart enough to build an empire.

Marco let out a humorless laugh.

"Of course... the universe had to make this joke."

He hesitated for hours.

Pride didn't put food on the table.

So the next day, he showed up at the company's headquarters.

Broke, undocumented, and completely out of options.

Rafael recognized him immediately.

For several seconds, the two men simply stared at each other.

Marco expected contempt.

He expected revenge.

At the very least, he expected a sarcastic smile.

Instead, Rafael simply smiled politely.

"Marco."

"Rafael."

"It's been a long time."

"I need a job."

Rafael raised an eyebrow.

"You always were direct."

"I'm not exactly in a position to be picky."

"That is true."

The answer made Marco grit his teeth.

Rafael then opened a drawer and pulled out an extremely thick folder.

"I think I have exactly the job you're looking for."

Marco looked at the folder.

"How much does it pay?"

"Enough for you to never have to worry about money again."

For the first time in months, Marco felt a flicker of hope.

"Then I'll take it."

Rafael pushed the folder across the desk.

"Read it first."

Marco opened it.

First page.

Second.

Third.

Tenth.

Twentieth.

After nearly an hour, he was still reading clauses about confidentiality, experimental risks, genetic ownership, authorization for physiological alterations, and dozens of technical terms that seemed specifically designed to make any sane human being give up.

Marco closed his eyes.

"Are you kidding me?"

"No."

"How many pages are in this thing?"

"Approximately four hundred."

Marco stared at Rafael.

Rafael continued smiling.

"But you don't have to read all of it."

"Can I sign?"

"You can."

Marco signed.

It was probably the fastest signature in the history of the company.

Rafael took the contract.

"Excellent."

"When do I start?"

"You already have."

Marco frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Rafael simply stood up.

"Welcome to the project."

For security reasons, Rafael installed Marco in a private suite inside his own mansion.

For the first few days, nothing happened.

Marco began to think the whole thing was just an elaborate way for Rafael to get revenge on him.

Then he noticed that his clothes were getting loose.

First around his legs.

Then his arms.

Within days, his shirts seemed far too large.

"Am I losing weight?"

The scale answered before he could come up with another explanation.

Five pounds.

Then ten.

Then fifteen.

But this didn't feel like a diet.

His body was simply... changing.

His muscle mass began disappearing.

His shoulders became narrower.

His waist slimmed down.

His face lost its square, intimidating appearance.

And the strangest part was that he didn't feel any pain.

It was as if his body had received a new set of instructions and was simply obeying them.

Then came the hair.

Marco had always kept his hair almost shaved.

It was practically a personal rule.

But now it was growing far too quickly.

He shaved it.

The next day, it was longer.

He shaved it again.

Another day passed.

It grew back.

"This is ridiculous!"

A week later, Marco had to tie his hair back just to keep it out of his eyes.

He started avoiding mirrors.

Until one morning, he woke up feeling something different.

Something that definitely shouldn't have been there.

He reached toward his chest.

Stopped.

Blinking in disbelief, he touched it again.

"No..."

He jumped out of bed so quickly that he nearly fell.

Then he ran to the mirror.

And froze.

The person reflected in front of him no longer looked like Marco.

The huge, intimidating, muscular man had disappeared.

In his place stood a short, slender young woman with long hair and delicate features that Marco could barely recognize as his own.

He ran his hands over his face.

"No. No, no, no..."

The door opened.

Rafael walked in.

He stopped for a few seconds, examining the result.

"Impressive."

Marco spun around furiously.

"What the hell did you do to me?!"

Rafael raised his hands.

"Technically, I did exactly what was described in the contract."

"I want my body back!"

"You signed."

"I was desperate!"

"I know."

That answer made Marco stop.

Rafael walked over to a small table and placed a metallic device on it.

"The experiment has two stages."

Marco looked at the device.

"Two?"

"The first alters the body."

Rafael pointed toward him.

"The second alters behavioral patterns, emotional responses, and certain aspects of memory."

Marco felt a chill run down his spine.

"You wouldn't."

"I don't intend to."

Rafael smiled.

"Provided you behave yourself."

Marco fell silent.

"So... you did all of this just to get revenge on me?"

Rafael took several seconds before answering.

"Perhaps."

He looked at his former bully.

Or rather...

At what Marco had become.

"But there's a difference between us, Marco."

"What?"

"When I was a teenager, you could ruin my day simply because you were bigger and stronger."

Rafael pointed toward the contract.

"Today, I didn't have to lift a finger."

Marco looked at himself again.

That hurt more than any insult could have.

Rafael then placed a small bag on the bed.

"Your new clothes."

Marco opened it.

He stared in silence.

Inside was a complete set of feminine clothing, including a delicate maid's outfit.

"You've got to be kidding me..."

"The uniform is part of the contract."

"Uniform?!"

"Your new position begins tomorrow."

Marco looked up.

"What position?"

Rafael smiled.

"Personal domestic assistant. My house needs someone I can trust."

Marco opened his mouth to protest.

Then stopped.

He looked at the device on the table.

Then at Rafael.

Finally, he looked at the clothes.

"You planned this from the beginning..."

"I've had plenty of time to plan."

Rafael left the room, leaving the door open.

Before disappearing down the hallway, however, he turned around.

"Oh, Marco?"

"What?!"

"I recommend trying on the uniform today. We have guests tomorrow."

The door closed.

Marco was left alone.

For several minutes, he simply stared at the clothes on the bed.

It was humiliating.

It was absurd.

It was probably the worst situation of his entire life.

But there was one small problem.

He needed that job.

He needed that roof over his head.

And, most importantly, he needed to find a way to clear his name and get his old life back.

He sighed.

"Fine..."

A few minutes later, standing in front of the mirror, Marco stared at his reflection once again.

The black dress fit perfectly.

The pale stockings reached high up his thighs.

The heels made his legs look even longer.

And the complete outfit transformed the strange person in the mirror into an almost convincing image of an elegant mansion maid.

Marco's face turned red.

"I hate this contract."

At that exact moment, he heard a voice behind him.

"I knew it would look perfect."

Marco froze.

Rafael was leaning against the doorway.

Smiling.

"You've been standing there this whole time?!"

"Just checking whether the uniform fit."

Marco closed his eyes.

Maybe signing that contract without reading it had been a mistake.

A gigantic mistake.

But at that moment, he had no idea that the real experiment was only just beginning.

Because Rafael didn't simply want to transform Marco's body.

He wanted to discover how long it would take to turn his former arrogance into something completely different.

And judging by the scientist's smile, he already had a plan to find out.

What would you do if you discovered that the job you desperately needed came with a contract that could completely change your body?

Would you sign it without reading every single clause? 😏
