It's not yours anymore
— Your body? — the woman in front of her raised an eyebrow. — As far as I remember, you disappeared with my body two years ago. Stole my youth, my life, my dreams... and now you just show up out of nowhere?
Clara hesitated. She was overwhelmed by the image in the mirror — the wavy blonde hair, the curvy body wrapped in elegant lingerie. Everything felt surreal — and yet painfully real.
— I regret it — she whispered. — I lived a lot, it’s true. I enjoyed those two years... but I want my life back. I want my husband. I want my son.
— Too late — Edward said calmly, running a hand through a strand of his golden hair. — I got used to the life you left behind. My husband — well, your husband — paid for those little “enhancements” you’re staring at so jealously. We’re doing great. We’re happy. And honestly? Life’s been much better without you around.
— I’ll tell them the truth — Clara said, furious. — I’ll tell them they’ve been living with an impostor. That you took my place and lied to them all this time.
Edward crossed his arms, unbothered:
— Too late for that, too. I told them everything early on. Told my best friend — who, yes, happens to be your son — that his mom was actually his best friend trapped in her body. And I told... well, my husband now, all about it. They know. They understand. And frankly, they think life’s been much better without you.
— You... you can’t do this! Let’s switch back. Please!
— Not a chance. The first time, you tricked me with that stupid spell, remember? Played with my words, my curiosity. I always thought you were beautiful, and I wished to “spend some time with you.” I didn’t know that time would be as you. And we both know — for the magic to work, both sides have to agree.
Clara stepped forward, but Edward didn’t flinch. On the contrary — he adjusted the strap of the lingerie, looking serene and confident.
In the end, Clara had been defeated.
She couldn’t enjoy the new life the way she imagined. She realized, too late, that the life she used to have — full of little problems and true love — was irreplaceable.
