After the Great Shift: A Body Swap Secret in a World of Adjustment Camps
Bodies changed. Lives were reassigned. And those who didn’t adapt… were quietly sent away to the Adjustment Camps.
Some people learned to survive by blending in.
Others learned to survive by becoming someone else.
Matthew and Gary were doing both.
“I already told your father to go get some rest — he has class tomorrow,” Matthew said, now inhabiting Gary’s mother’s body. “And I sent your mother over to my place. My parents would worry if I stayed out too late.”
“You know you don’t have to stay in character every second, right?” Gary replied, trapped in his own father’s body.
“I do,” Matthew answered calmly. “What if I slip? We agreed we wouldn’t report to the authorities — the ones dragging people off to the post–Great Shift Adjustment Camps, remember?”
“Yeah, yeah… but we’re alone here,” Gary sighed. “You don’t need to perform like that. And seriously… what is that outfit?”
Matthew smiled slightly, smoothing the unfamiliar fabric against his borrowed skin.
“That’s exactly what we need to talk about. There’s still so much to learn.”
He stepped closer, more at ease than he was willing to admit.
“I’m just starting to feel comfortable exploring what this new life has to offer.”
